A sunroom is a structure which has a transparent roof to allow natural sunlight in that is usually added to a home, rather than one that was constructed as part of the original design. It also typically has walls that are composed mostly of glass or plastic for the same reason. Having a sunlit room in one’s home can provide many opportunities for enjoyment. Spring days after winter are especially pleasant because of refreshing exposure to sunlight after the gloomiest and coldest season.
Being indoors and having less sunlight during winter can be associated with seasonal affective disorder. Some people also call this ‘winter depression’ or ‘winter blues’ but having a sunroom and using it frequently might help alleviate this mood. Some cold winter days are sunny and one could take advantage of the sunlight while remaining warm by spending time in a sunroom.
Of course, spring, summer and fall would also be enjoyable. Sunrooms are often good places to gather for socializing, relaxing, and having meals because the extra sunlight exposure can be a mood booster.
